On 5-6 June 2009, Ken Oliphant participated in an International Workshop entitled "Medical liability and medical accidents compensation. From the blame game to individual rights protection in the provision of medical services" organised by
Opinio Juris in Comparatione (Studies in Comparative and National Law) at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Pisa. His paper ("Compensation, Ideology and Patient Safety in New Zealand’s No-Fault System") identified lessons for the development of non-tort-based compensation regimes for medical accidents in Europe from the experience of no-fault accident compensation in New Zealand.
